The pictures below were taken on 13 April 1999. This was the second day of training. The first day was not very successful. The trainer was unable to get the saddle on Foxy.
The above pictures are close-ups of Foxy's head. He is wearing a bridle. The bit is covered in rubber. This bit is to get him used to carrying it, and to get him used to the feel of a bit in his mouth.
These two pictures are the same. The apparent difference is caused by cropping the original photo. In this photo, Foxy's only task is to get used to the feel of both the saddle and the bridle. He stood there for about five hours. As you can tell, he was paying attention to me when I took all of the pictures above.
On day three, Foxy was saddled and bridled. We then lunged him for a few moments. Next we took him into an outside, round pen. In the pen, we tied his head around to the left. This was done to teach him to bend and give to the bit. He spent several hours in the pen, going around in circles to the left.

In this picture, Foxy is learning to bend to the right. This is day four of his training. We repeated day three, only instead of tying his head to the left, we tied it to the right. Foxy spent a few hours going around in circles to the right. He got a bath when he was done.

These pictures were taken on 15 April 1999. I took these after Foxy was mostly dry. I gave him a bath after we took him out of the round pen, and removed the saddle and bridle. He really needed this bath since he was covered with sweat. He was very cooperative and enjoyed the cool water and gentle scrubbing.

Foxy is very good at seeming to pose for the camera. He appears to enjoy having his picture taken. With a little coxing, he will bring both ears forward for picture taking.

Day 5 of training. It is 16 April 1999. Here we are teaching Foxy where to carry his head. He needs to carry his head low for Western Pleasure. It took him several minutes to figure out that he did not have to go in circles. He spent several hours ambling around the pen, choosing which way he would go.
Foxy got a two day break over the weekend. This gave him a chance to rest.
